Colleen On How To Share More Of The Mundane

I don't use Twitter but I can tell you without shame that I find the Facebook statuses people post about what they had for breakfast or better still, what they are making for dinner utterly thrilling! Don't even get me started on how interesting it is when someone buys something new and expensive and posts that fact along with the price of the aforesaid object on their status! Never do I get enough information about other people! Never! I long to shout, please elaborate, tell me more! So you ate bread and cheese for breakfast but what sort of bread?? What sort of cheese?? In how many bites??? I want to weep and beat my fists against the table in frustration for that information being so cruelly held back from me.

I believe as a culture we simply don't share enough of the mundane details of our lives. Wouldn't you agree? I know that I want my head to be filled up with information like this! I want someone to ask me if I believe in God and my answer to be a parrot-like chirp proclaiming rather that "I know that Susie ate a slice of bread this morning and smoked two cigarettes after lunch." I want someone to ask me how I feel about any currant issue of the day, let's say euthanasia...and my reply to be a blank-eyed "Jennifer bought three new shirts for thirty dollars and is making lasagna for dinner!"

Come on people...let's work together on this! I really do believe that if we try just a bit harder, we can make it to a place where all communication is completely devoid of intelligence! We're almost there! We have but to try a little harder!

Who's with me? Let's go forth and be that change we want to see in the world!  I want to hear a resounding "amen"!

Colleen, this is quite hilarious. Now there is one called 4square where people simply say where they are. I am yet to understand what is all about!

So glad you enjoyed it!:) And yes, posting where you are at any given moment is quite perplexing...unless you are somewhere amazing, but even so, I think we mostly overestimate how interesting other people find us.:) Hope you have a great day!

hmmm so I'm thinkin' you didn't care to know that I bought new shoes...interesting...but I get what you're sayin'! My only excuse for posting "mundane" thoughts and/or feelings is that it is only FB...and you have to agree that a large number of souls on FB couldn't think any further then their last meal! LOL Oh and by the by... Judi McQueen Dudek had Banana Bread with your family last night...Kelly is still hilarious, Mary-Anne is extremely overworked, Mr. Wilson is still charming and Mrs. Wilson, well she is her usual wonderful self!

Oh Judi, I didn't even see your status about the shoes...I am certainly not directing this at anybody in particular.:) I'm sure I also post mundane things on occasion, well, if I did, it would be extremely rare of course...:) But no, this isn't personal, it's general observation. I like your statuses...I think they share very nicely what you are up to and find them interesting! Anyway, glad to hear you enjoyed your time with my family...lucky you!!:)

well actually I didn't have bread or cheese for breakfast...I'm lactose intolerant which does crazy things to my stomach so....and i have a hard time with bread too. Lots of issues for me, so instead I had a banana and peanut butter. I'm pretty sure it was a chiquita banana, and it was just slightly underripe, but really i prefer that to overripe, and my peanut butter was creamy...Jif I think, no skippy, no definitely Jif which really tastes the most like real peanuts..and I had a square of dark chocolate. Ghiradelli, because that's what I eat most mornings for breakfast... ;)

Well, just so you know Gypsy Lady...you are the wittiest person on "MY" facebook...most days! :) Love you...

Kamana...me too girl! Me too!:)

Haha Deborah, I LOVE that! PLEASE make that your status! Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaase!!:)

Judi!!!:) Kelly and Michael both surpass my meager attempts at humor.:)

brian skipped breakfast this morning and is enjoying a nice Pikes at *bux after chasing kids around the yard like an alien before putting them on bus. he is wearing converse low tops and black shirt over jeans.

Hahaha! Loved it. I have a hard time with all the noise on the internet too. And we do this because... dunno. Oh by the way, "Karen ate a frozen waffle today." Sorry :) couldn't resist.

Your blog is always a surprise and I really enjoy it. Thanks!

I hear you and you are SO very right.

Susan does not remember what she had for breakfast and she does not care if you had anything at all. Period.

I use Facebook to put up quotes and unique expressions which make sensible reading (I reckon so!)

And, I am glad that I don't have a Twitter account.

Colleen, a fun read this was!

Hope you're having a fantastic day with your lovable son!

Joy always,
Susan

You gave me such a good laugh:)

My sister and I have laughed ourselves silly at some of the stuff people post on FB. It is positively ridiculous!! I really DO NOT care to see that your 'prego' test is positive. You can tell me, sure, but a picture??!! for the whole world to see?? I am soo not getting it.:)

A great laugh for me this morning. I am on Twitter and because I have no idea what to write about anymore, I have a hard time tweeting. I see Otieno from Kenya raises 4square. I was going to raise it too. Apparently, it tells you where people are at any given minutes of the day! Why on earth would you want to announce that to the world?

haha! Love it!

Brian, excellent status!:)

Karen thanks for the compliment! That was nice to read! And you're forgiven your example...frozen waffles are delicious.:)

Thank you Susan Deborah and amen to your views on twitter and what people eat for breakfast! I hope you too are having a really beautiful day! Take care my dear!

Jenn, so glad you got a good laugh from this.:) And I know, I know...what are people thinking? Personally I think they aren't.;)

Joyful, thank you and I am so glad you enjoyed it!:) Yes I know, there is simply no need for people to know exactly where people are at any given minute...we have really perfected the art of over-sharing!:)

Kristen, thank you!:)

LOL I love this post Colleen...it is so true...I am blown away by the status updates that are so idiotic that get tons of comments...I have come to believe that if you write anything that has any meaning or intelligence it will get little or no attention...by the way I had an egg on a homemade bun for breakfast...lol...thanks for the smiles. :)

Could it be possible that I am really not missing a whole lot by not being on FB?

Sometimes I think I am the only one who doesn't know what everyone else had for breakfast.

I stopped facebooking half a year ago. It was exhausting knowing so many uninteresting things about friends and relatives.
Getting thumbs up instead of an answer. I've got pneumonia= 6 thumbs up.
On the other hand it helped us give away 5 kittens in no time..(The free buy, sell, give away site).

LMAO!!! Way too much info out there on fb!

jane.healy said...

Now I fully understand the comment you left on my post! Love this ... do you want to be my Face Book buddy?

Colleen said...

Lori, I think you are right...maybe many people just don't know how to respond to a more serious status? Anyway, I'm with you my friend!:)

Oh Grandma K, you are not missing a thing!:)

Felisol I know what you mean...so much nonsense to take in! I have stopped and started so many times now...I just haven't managed to completely quit yet. Someday I hope.:)

Shell, there sure is.:)

Jane, so glad you enjoy it.:) Certainly I would like to be your FB buddy...how can I find you?:)

Wait, I find I can't LIVE without knowing what everyone on my facebook had for breakfast and what they are buying at the store/making for dinner etc. My life just doesn't WORK without this information! I say, please, everyone, GIVE ME MORE! When I have no access to this, such as when traveling, I find myself wondering what each of my 155 odd (yes very odd) facebook friends are up to! The tears will flow for no reason at all, except that I am missing my computer! So please keep it coming! Kate

I love this post. I needed a chuckle today & to be reminded of mundane things. Thanks for always being so delightful.

I like the way you get your points across in your posts, Colleen :) I'm not on facebook for this very reason. Can't say I haven't considered it though! By the way, I had an egg on a whole wheat bagel for breakfast today. And you?

Actually, you strike me as a whole grain kind of gal too ;)
